Dental Bonding

As a restoration procedure, dental bonding is when a tooth-colored resin is bonded to a tooth and cured with an ultraviolet light. It’s a lot faster and less expensive than veneers or crowns, therefore it can be a good option for making small cosmetic improvements to your teeth. Unlike veneers and crowns, bonding can be completed in one office visit since there is no custom lab work required. Additionally, the procedure requires less removal of the tooth enamel. Since bonding doesn’t last as long as other forms of restoration and is less resistant to stains, it is used more often for small cosmetic touchups rather than major restorations.

What to expect

The entire bonding procedure should take between 30 to 60 minutes for each tooth. First, your 94612 dentist will determine your exact color shade and select an appropriate resin that will blend naturally. Once a shade has been chosen, the dentist will prepare the tooth for better adhesion to the bonding material. This will require roughening the surface of the affected tooth and applying a liquid conditioner. Then, your Oakland dentist will apply the resin to the tooth, and cure it in place using an ultraviolet light. The final step is applying the finishing touches by shaping and polishing the resin for a good fit.
